'Dio Live In London: Hammersmith Apollo 1993'
(Dio / Blu ray / NR / 2014 / Eagle Eye Media)

Overview: Filmed at London's Hammersmith Apollo on December 12th, 1993 this previously-unreleased concert film captures the then newly-reformed Dio on the last night of their European tour in support of the Strange Highways album in stunning Blu ray quality.

Blu ray Verdict: In truth, this concert came at an interesting time in RJD's career! His drummer had been Vinny Appice for all of his albums since Black Sabbath's Mob Rules. That was until Appice left in 1989, of course. After Dio released Lock Up the Wolves without him, RJD ended up rejoining Black Sabbath for the Dehumanizer album with, wait for it, Vinny Appice on drums!

Anyway, when that project didn't work out he kickstarted the Dio band again enlisting Vinny as his drummer, just as he had the first time he had left Black Sabbath. And so the, shall we say re-re-reunited Dio and Appice teamed with Tracy G, Jeff Pilson, and Scott Warren to release Strange Highways, the album they were touring with during this very same concert.

Do you have to have an appreciation for Strange Highways to be able to appreciate and love this live show? No, of course not. Especially given that the band do more than just what's on their new-at-the-time album. But sure, it does help, given that six (6) of songs sung live are from the said same new album.

Anyway, and as mentioned above, this previously-unreleased live DIO show was filmed back on December 12th 1993 at the famed London Hammersmith Apollo. And boy, does it musically grab you by the nuts and never let go! All the songs sound great, the band members all playing a blistering set. And yes, the expected classics such as 'Holy Diver,' 'Heaven and Hell,' the Rainbow monster 'Man on the Silver Mountain,' 'The Last in Line,' and even 'Rainbow in the Dark' all come to the fore.

RJD's voice is in top notch form, the highest of quality, that's for sure. Indeed, the overall sound mix here is not of a bootleg quality, but moreover very professional and rather excellent, in general. If you're a DIO fan, or simply a lover of all things Ronnie James Dio himself, do yourself a favor and buy this Blu ray today!
