'Wings: Sky Force Heroes'
(Josh Duhamel, Tom Skerritt, Rob Schneider, Hilary Duff, Jesse McCartney, et al / DVD / PG / 2014 / Lionsgate)

Overview: When Ace (Josh Duhamel), a cocky young firefighter, defies his orders and recklessly attempts a solo mission, it results in the tragic death of Colonel (Tom Skerritt), who was forced to rescue Ace when the flames burst out of control. Crushed by guilt, Ace abandons his dream and quits the fire brigade along with Fred (Rob Schneider), his trusty co-pilot.

DVD Verdict: Well, to be fair, this movie does possess some incredible star power in the vocal department - Josh Duhamel, Tom Skerritt, Rob Schneider, Hilary Duff, Jesse McCartney, et al - but at its heart, it's still a "paycheck movie," sorry!

Bad writing, half-hearted vocal "acting," and animation that even a 4 year-old (who sat next to me the whole time) will complain about (and did), 'Wings: Sky Force Heroes' is not anything like it should/could have been.

In the same vein of such other hits as 'Planes' and 'Cars,' 'Wings' hasn't got the same quality of jokes and the storyline is just too wandering at times. Parts that drag include dancing at the Fair for ten minutes, and the whole $1,000,000 reward for the jet plan, etc.

That all said I do honestly understand the message they are trying to say here, but there was simply no variety, no suspense, no relief, no belief to it all. I mean, come on now, characters you thought were dead suddenly appear and others you don't see die (or have any screen closure for) just, well, disappear!

This could have been a lot better if they had gotten 'Ace' to chase the evil jet plan, get scared/damaged, overcome his fears/inabilities by trying to save a damsel/friend in distress. Then get the courage to join his old buddies. Instead he tries different jobs, fails and then gets stuck with the only job he can find? Which, come on now, teaches our kids what - that when you fail find any job you can, even if you hate it, just so you can do something you weren't cut out to do in the first place?!
