'The Angriest Man in Brooklyn'
(Robin Williams, James Earl Jones, Peter Dinklage, Mila Kunis, et al / DVD / R / 2014 / Lionsgate)

Overview: Always unhappy and angry at the world including everyone in it, Henry Altmann (Williams) sits impatiently at the doctor's office when he is finally seen by Dr. Sharon Gill (Kunis). Sharon, who is enduring her own bad day, reveals that Henry has a brain aneurysm. This news makes Henry even angrier, yelling at Sharon he demands to know how much time he has left. Faced with Henry's anger and insults, Sharon abruptly tells him he has only 90 minutes!

DVD Verdict: 'The Angriest Man in Brooklyn' is actually a remake of the 1997 Israeli film, 'The 92 Minutes of Mr. Baum,' and for all intents and purposes is a fairly entertaining direct-to-DVD film. It's not perfect, but then again what movie in Hollywood (especially a direct-to-DVD one) is these days?

The plot centers around real estate attorney Henry Altmann, portrayed by Williams, who after being told by a doctor he has an inoperable brain aneurysm, and has only 90 minutes to live, sets off to try and reconcile the estrangements he has caused with his raging behavior among family and friends. Henry apparently has been extremely angry "at the world" since one of his sons died in a hunting accident some 2 years before.

The doctor that told Henry this terribly grim diagnosis is Dr. Sharon Gill, played by Kunis, who herself has been under enormous personal stress, has recently lost her cat, and is apparently addicted to prescription pain pills. So when she's verbally attacked in the examination room by Henry, she vindictively makes up a ridiculous amount of time that he has to live.

After Henry storms out, Dr. Gill realizes what a horrendous mistake she's made and tries to find him, on the streets of Brooklyn, and get him to a hospital. If all of this sounds rather ridiculous, it is.

The overall message here is positive about family and how we need to enjoy whatever time we have on this planet, and there are a few moments of poignancy towards the end of the film. However, it's way too long in getting to those moments that we kinda neg to see earlier in the movie.

That said, one of my favorite lines is when Henry yells at Sharon: "You told me I was gonna die in ninety minutes, because your cat jumped out a window?" Sorry, but if you manage to see this movie you'll understand that this statement comes complete with en masse of Williams' facial expressions and trademark vocal tone delivery! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
