'Peep Discovers: Peep & Big Wide World'
(DVD / TV-Y / 2014 / PBS Kids)
Overview: Follow a newly hatched chicken named Peep and his friends Chirp and Quack (a robin and a duck) on their adventures. They live in "the big wide world," a place of wonder and mystery, a place they are eager to explore.
DVD Verdict: Now THIS cartoon series was SO MUCH FUN! And I'm an old man! Well, not quite, but watching my grand kids enjoy it, and me also finding the series' distinctive visual humor, charming plot lines, and lovable characters all meshing together in perfect harmony just makes me SO happy that I got this to review!
'Peep' is just so damn amusing, informative and well written. Again, I am a little embarrassed to admit that I often find myself laughing out loud at the antics of Peep, Chirp and Quack; but who cares! The narration by Joan Cusack is delightful. I am glad the opportunity to introduce my toddler to the wonderful talents of one of my favorite actresses.
The live action sequences dealing with science and nature have given us lots of ideas for fun outside play that keeps my daughter's interest.
The shows on Discovery Kids really are wonderful and Peep is a great addition. The eight (8) episodes included here are: 'Reflection Affection,' 'Peep Deep in the Big Muddy,' 'The Road Not Taken, Parts 1 and 2,' 'Nosing Around,' 'The Last Straw,' 'Marble Mover,' and then 'Fair Shares.'
In closing, Peep's job is to entertain us. And Peep does just that. Like a young child, Peep is naive and every show is about her finding something banal (like snow or sand) for the very first time; and showing us all how fascinating it can be. These are all Widescreen Presentations (1.77:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of printable activities and coloring pages.
