'Death in Paradise: Season Two'
(Ben Miller, Sara Martins, Danny John-Jules, Gary Carr, et al / 2-Disc DVD / NR / 2014 / BBC America)

Overview: Detective Richard Poole is still trapped on the stunning Caribbean island of Saint-Marie, but, for him, the sun, sea, and sand aren’t quite paradise. Faced with puzzling murders and a local team with unorthodox approaches, Poole must use his eye for detail, relentless logic, and stubborn refusal to leave anything unexplained to solve these cases.

DVD Verdict: If you haven't caught on by now, 'Death in Paradise' is very easy to watch! Even if you despise the old fashioned workings of the likes of Miss Marple and Poiroit, you can grow to love this murder mystery.

Set in more sunnier climbs than your usual crime drama, the quirky Caribbean police force combined with some brilliant acting from Ben Miller returns for another season - and finds our hero still a) longing to get off the island and back to dreary UK, and b) not quite sure if he actually wants to leave the island after all!

And so our hapless, yet genius detective sits back as the show's devious recipe for whodunnit fun lays out before him in these new so-much-fun-to-watch episodes.

For those catching up, or trying to recall, at the end of the first season our beloved Detective Inspector Richard Poole was on the dock of the island of Sainte-Marie (where the series is set), appearing to be considering his tenancy on said island. This delightful second season sees a continuation of his career on the island, with new murders to exercise his considerable investigative skills.

So together with his beautiful partner, Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey, played by Sara Martins, and with the able bodied help of Dwayne Myers, the oldest member of the team, and even Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (played brilliantly by Don Warrington) who was responsible for bringing Poole on board, Season Two is just as colorful, just as enjoyable, just as murderous as the first season!

Indeed, in these eight episodes we get everything from a wealthy sugar plantation owner Roger Seymour - who was planning to donate his plantation to the island as a museum - being murdered, to a woman named Valerie Dupree found floating in the pool at Jeremy Cutting's cosmetic clinic, to Camille's friend, singer Aimee, who collapses and dies on a boat owned by local entrepreneur Stephen Morrison and his wife Eloise, also a vocalist.

So come on into the sunshine, watch the thrill of the chase as the team track down the evidence in their ramshackle police hut and jungle 4x4! Trust me when I say that 'Death In Paradise' will not only try to keep you guessing right up until the end, but it's also a great way to go, my friend! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
