'Jeff Beck - Live In Tokyo' [Blu-ray]
(Jeff Beck / Blu ray / NR / 2014 / Eagle Vision)

Overview: Jeff Beck is undeniably one of the world s greatest guitar players. Technically brilliant, he is renowned for pushing musical boundaries and has excelled across many different genres from rock and jazz to pop and blues. 'Live In Tokyo' was filmed at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Japan on April 9th this year.

Blu ray Verdict: As I'm sure you all know by now, Jeff Beck is a prolific English rock guitarist and is also one of the three noted guitarists to have played with The Yardbirds - the other two being Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page! So he's in great company there then! Beck also formed The Jeff Beck Group and Beck, Bogert & Appice.

Here on this brand new live Blu ray, 'Jeff Beck - Live In Tokyo' it should initially be noted that these Japanese dates were the first to feature Jeff Beck’s new backing band of Jonathan Joseph (drums), Nicolas Meier (guitars), and Rhonda Smith (bass). And due to the fact that he has a still-to-be-released new album due out soon, the set list included some material from this very same "mystery" album.

With Live In Tokyo' being filmed within the expansive confines of a major concert arena (the Tokyo Dome City Hall), the videographer was on fire here tonight! My mind goes back to the days when Beck started collaborating with bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice, who became available following the demise of Cactus. They began touring as the Jeff Beck Group around 1972 and their combined sound was rip roaring, to say the least.

With many songs on this wonderful new live Blu ray culled from a period of time when Beck was experimenting with electronic distortion, the actual full length track listing (see below) showcases most all eras of the great guitarists work. Here tonight in Tokyo, as back through time can also show, Beck redefines the sound and role of the electric guitar in rock music.
