'Stillness in Motion: Vai Live in L.A.'
(Steve Vai / 2DVD / NR / 2015 / Legacy Recordings)

Overview: 'Stillness In Motion: Vai Live in L.A.' was recorded October 2012 at Club Nokia in LA while Steve was on his two year worldwide Story of Light tour.

DVD Verdict: As I'm sure you are all well aware by now, Steve Via is an American guitarist, songwriter, singer, and producer who has sold over 15 million albums. After starting his career as a music transcriptionist for Frank Zappa, he recorded and toured in Zappa's band from 1980 to 1982. He began a solo career in 1983, and has since released nine solo albums and won three Grammy Awards.

'Stillness in Motion: Vai Live in L.A.' is a live 2 disc DVD set that features new, and always-incerdible arrangements of his classic material and fan favorites. Inclusive of material from his latest album, 2012's The Story Of Light, it also harbors exciting bonus material from his latest world tour.

Joining him for this tour was Jeremy Colson on drums, Philip Bynoe on bass, Dave Weiner on guitar, and Debora Henson-Conant on electric harp. The main concert is split over the two discs, and a also features a very comprehensive tour diary; with lots of behind the scenes footage of the band traveling around the world. The set list contains lots of Steve Vai classics including "Building The Church", "Animal", and "For The Love Of God", along with songs from The Story Of Light including "Velorum", "Gravity Storm", and the vocal track "The Moon and I".

Funnily enough, a very heartwarming part of the concert is where audience members come onstage to inspire the band to write a new original song on the spot! This act not only clearly demonstrates the simplicity of song creation and letting ideas flow from within, but really shows Via's creativity, as well as his conducting skills.

As for a bit more on that aforementioned comprehensive tour diary, it includes over 3 hours of a video diary showing Steve and his band in rehearsals and goes through highlights from some the 253 shows they played around the world! This double DVD disc is not to be missed by all fans of both Steve Via and/or fans of incredible, truly inspired guitar playing. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
