'Tom and Jerry - The Gene Deitch Collection'
(Various / DVD / NR / 2015 / Warner Bros.)

Overview: Celebrate the most enduring team in animation history with a collection fans will want to chase and catch! This highly anticipated release includes all 13 of the Gene Deitch produced shorts that fans and collectors will surely want to own!

DVD Verdict: The work of popular animator Gene Deitch, is the focus of this delightful 'Tom and Jerry: The Gene Deitch Collection'. For those not in the know, Gene Deitch was an animator at UPA. He later joined Terrytoons in 1955 where he created characters like "John Doormat", "Clint Clobber", "Gaston Le Crayon", "Sidney", and "Foofle". In early 1958, his theatrical cartoon Sidney's Family Tree (1958) was nominated for Academy Award.

This new compilation from Warner Bros. gives viewers 13 fully re-mastered theatrical shorts, produced by Deitch, plus two (2) brand-new bonus features. It’s a release that collectors of classic animation, won’t want to miss as this is truly classic cartoon furball comedy at its finest.

Tom and Jerry was by far one of the greatest cartoon classics ever made. With amazing sound effects, those silent cartoon characters made me laugh throughout the rest of the episodes they were in. These early Gene Deitch episodes are just as good as anything that came after them, but are not going to be to everyone's taste. If you fall in love with this collection, please check out some more of animator Gene Deitch's work, like the Academy Award winner "Munro." This is a Standard Version Presentation (1:33.1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:

1.Tom and Jerry...and Gene: The Rembrandt Years
2.Much Ado About Tom and Jerry
