'Grounded for Life - Season 1 + 2''
(Donal Logue, Megyn Price, Kevin Corrigan, Lynsey Bartilson, Jake Burbage, et al / 2-Disc DVD / PG / 2011 / Mill Creek Entertainment)

Overview: Raising kids is tough, especially when you're Grounded for Life! Sean and Claudia Finnerty, a fun-loving Staten Island couple got pregnant and married by age 18. Now in their 30s, they aren't bad parents, but they're still just kids themselves!

DVD Verdict: I first discovered this show on the ABC Family Channel and it was/is so funny! Now on DVD, my family and I watch it everyday and sometimes re-watch again late at night just before bed! Believe me, it's just THAT good/funny!

Indeed, every night when we first got into this show we'd say, "How did we not know about this show?" and "What were they thinking, taking it off the air?" I can't come up with a favorite character because they are all so unique and fabulous in their own ways. But Sean is just plain, down-right funny, and (oh boy) loves to scream. Claudia is such a fun loving and cool mom. Lily is a time bomb. Jimmy is intelligent but does stupid things. Henry, is well, Henry. And Eddie, is the icing on the cake!

I love the episode where the Finnerty's get a new TV and Claudia accidently spills soda in it. She tells Jimmy to do everything he can to keep Sean from watching TV. And after a long day, Sean finally goes to watch TV, and to destract him, Jimmy's like, "Dad, how do you know if you're gay?" Another episode is when Jimmy goes to the bathroom to shave, for the first time, and there's this girl that he likes at this party that was going on at his house. He's in the bathroom forever, making everyone at the party wait to use the bathroom. He finally gets out, and the girl he likes is there, and he starts talking to her. All of a sudden, his face just starts bleeding because of all the nicks. She has this look on her face like, OMG!

But now comes the only issue I have with these new releases. The seasons of Grounded for Life are kind of a mess. The last five episodes of season one weren't run until season 2. But they are included on Season 1! For season 2, 17 new episodes were produced. This was also their last complete season on Fox as the third season had them swap over to the WB after only 3 episodes!

Anyway, the light-hearted comedy which tackled the tough role of being a young, cool dad, while coping with adult not-so-cool responsibilities barrels ever onwards in season two, with some classic episodes as season opener "Baby, You Can't Drive My Car," "Smoke on the Daughter," "I Saw Daddy Hitting Santa Claus," with "Mr. Roboto" and "Relax!" and both "Eddie Said Knock You Out" and season ender "Oops!...I Did It Again."

Ergo, being as grounded (all puns intended) as this show was, and as FUNNY as this show was, this was always one of those shows that deserved a DVD release since its conception. Donal Logue was one of the great TV dads and has gone on to do shows like Monk and such. Trust me, this show is appealing to all age groups and to all senses of humor! These are all Full-Screen Presentations (1.33:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
