'Gangland Undercover - Season 1'
(Damon Runyan, Melanie Scrofano, Ian Matthews, et al / 2-DVD / Not Rated / 2015 / LGF)

Overview: A gritty fact based drama series that tells the astonishing story of a drug dealer who was arrested then given a desperate ultimatum: serve over 20 years in jail, or go undercover inside one of America's most notorious biker gangs.

DVD Verdict: That man in question is Charles Falco (played with stoic grace here by Damon Runyan), who opted to go undercover instead of spend 20 years in jail. A highly risky move, but for the next three years he led a crazy and dangerous life infiltrating the infamous Vagos motorcycle gang. He collected evidence while constantly facing the evident risk factor that he might be discovered and become one of the gang's victims.

Each of the first season 6 episodes of 'Gangland Undercover - Season 1' reveals a different step in Falco's covert investigation into their illegal activities, while across the series, the drama builds as carefully constructed character arcs unfold bitter personal rivalries. These tensions finally erupt when the gang's Vice President is killed in a motorcycle accident, unleashing a chain of unforeseen consequences that ultimately tear the gang apart.

With suspicions about Falco's true identity mounting, the operation threatens to unravel, leading to a tense and dramatic conclusion. Drawing on the wealth of material from Falco's time under cover, along with broader documented historical research of inter gang rivalry, this series dramatically captures the reality of outlaw biker counter culture: a world where freedom is equated with the right to carry guns and trade drugs with impunity, and respect can be earned through fear.

I won't reveal the ending of season one, as that would be heartless, but the one question that will always sit with you episode after episode is: How does Falco even have the balls to get involved in such an undercover operation in the first place?! I guess when you're desperate to try and escape jail, the offer seems redeeming, but in the very first episode, when you see another agent being blown to death in a freshly dug out grave, it just makes you realize that what this man put himself through to avoid jail time was incredible!

Basically, 'Gangland Undercover - Season 1' highlights some interesting dark facts about being in a biker gang which, in turn, reveal over and over that if you ever get sucked into the biker gang that, one way or another, your life is over. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1:85.1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the following Episodes:

Going Under
A Tough Prospect
Patched In
Dangerous Game
Solitary
Endgame
