'Telenovelas Populares - La Gala'
(Maite Perroni, Daniel Arenas, Laura Zapata, et al / 4-Disc DVD / NR / 2015 / Cinedigm)

Overview: Esmeralda, whom everybody calls The Stray Cat, grew up in a suburban slum under miserable conditions. Ever since she was a little girl she has lived with Doña Rita, who exploits her by sending her out on the streets to beg in order to earn her keep. As a child, she became friends with Pablo, a wealthy child who cares for her and tries to help her behind his mother's back.

DVD Verdict: For those not in the know, 'La Gala' (or as it is truly better known, 'The Stray Cat' has way too many epic scenes to keep ones attention throughout. And by that I mean 120 episodes in 2014 alone! The actors are well educated, strict to their cause, o that have no doubt, but if you think you can watch this show and dismiss anything else of a similar ilk on, say, The CW, Fox, and NBC, you will sadly be mistaken.

Having just ended recently, I would actually like to see an American adaptation of the show, because it's always surprisingly and Maitte Perroni really convinced me that she was a cat with nine lives to survive the horrific nightmares from evil people she encountered on the show! Especially the devious Laura Zapata, of course! Indeed, Perroni really turned up the heat, showed her claws by showing them love and compassion even when they stepped all over her!best broadcast of its ilk, and I'm genuinely upset that it ended recently - but this 4-disc DVD box-set is a fantastic way to remember the show, that's for sure. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1:78.1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
