'NCIS: Los Angeles - The Third Season'
(Chris O'Donnell, Daniela Ruah, Barrett Foa, Linda Hunt, LL Cool J, et al / 6-Disc DVD / NR / 2012 / Paramount)

Overview: 'NCIS: Los Angeles' is a drama about the high stakes world of the Office of Special Projects (OSP), a division of NCIS that is charged with apprehending dangerous and elusive criminals that pose a threat to the nation's security.

DVD Verdict: Another great season, and one that I never saw coming (as I assumed long ago that this series woudn't take off!), it starts with 'LANGE, H.' where the field team travels to the Romanian Black Sea coast. A thrilling conclusion to last season's cliffhanger, Callen recognizes his childhood roots in flashbacks, but their plans to "quietly" rescue Hetty backfire due to a hostile gypsy crime gang Comescue.

Oh, just in case you didn't know, they work for OSP, a clandestine division of NCIS which itself is located in Los Angeles, California. They go deep undercover to capture criminals that are threatening national security. Anyway, with Chris O'Donnell as Special Agent "G" Callen and LL Cool J as Special Agent "Sam Hanna," the episodes are fast and furious.

As the episodes flow, one after another (which is the beauty of watching them all in DVD with no adverts), there are two-parters (like the mid-season ender and the season finale, and even a crossover episode with Hawaii Five-0 in 'Touch of Death.' Oh, and we watch as Sam hunts for his missing and highly-prized personal classic car, and Nell tempts Eric to "break the internet"!

Most all the characters are incredible, the story lines creative but as always the best if the best if Hetty. Henrietta 'Hetty' Lange is played in fine sarcastic style by the wonderful Linda Hunt - who is awesome! The role of Nell Jones (Renée Felice Smith) is still a little squeaky to me, but she has to stop "flirting" with Eric Beale (portrayed by Barrett Foa). The will they won't they scenario is beyond played out now, sorry!

That said, the second field team, consisting of Agent Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) and LAPD detective Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) does work. That whole will they won't they gig playing out with laughter and pointed jibes perfectly. As for the extended season-ending cliffhanger, 'SANS VOIR (Parts 1+2) the team are matched against a clever chess-playing villain (and a true blast from the past) who leaves the team inside out and upside down!

And, as much as some TV shows throw in the occasional guest stars, this third season brings us big names such as Christopher Lambert (Highlander), Claire Forlani (Meet Joe Black), Alana De La Garza (Law & Order), Miguel Ferrer (Crossing Jordan), Laura Harring (Mulholland Drive), Peter Stormare (Fargo), Erik Palladino (ER), Drew Fuller (Charmed), and if we push it to its stretchiest edges, well, Danny Nucci (Titanic). These are all Widescreen Presentations (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs is packed with behind-the-scenes Special Features!
