'He's A Bully, Charlie Brown'
(Animation / DVD / NR / (2006) 2015 / Warner Bros.)

Overview: The 'He's A Bully, Charlie Brown' compilation from Peanuts includes "It was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown" and Episode 2: Team Manager Shorts: Shoveling, Rerun, Lost Blanket, The Manager (from the Charlie Brown & Snoopy Show).

DVD Verdict: Charlie Brown and a few of his friends attend a camp, and there they meet Joe Aggit, a lying bully who offers to teach kids the game of Marbles without telling them it's for keep. Then he takes their marbles for good. When Rerun is tricked and gets his marbles taken, Charlie Brown must use his own marbles to help get the other kids their marbles back. The only problem is, Charlie Brown doesn't know how to play!

One of the "newer" versions of the beloved Peanuts collection of Charlie Brown escapades, sadly, and it has to be said, it truly seems that the voices of the Peanuts gang are getting worse with each passing special. As are the specials themselves. I liked "I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown". It was a very endearing film, and, in a bizarre way, a touching tribute to the tragically lost genius of Charles Schulz.

But this "He's A Bully, Charlie Brown" kind of gets lost within itself too much. That said, there are always upsides to any Charlie Brown animated special and so it's a genuine big smile that comes across my face to see Marcie make Peppermint Patty jealous by claiming her and Charlie Brown are getting intimate with each other! Better still, Charlie Brown gets to be a hero and actually wins for once - albeit that he doesn't know much about it, in all honesty! FYI: "He's a Bully, Charlie Brown" was included on the "You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown" DVD. "It Was a Short Summer" was on the 1960s collection set, and the Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show is out in its entirety on DVD already! This is a Full Screen Presentation (1.77:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
