'The American Invasion'
(DVD / PG-13 / 2016 / PBS)

Overview: 'The American Invasion' provides a powerful record of a momentous period in American and British history. The memories and experiences of surviving U.S. airmen are the key to understanding the courage of men plucked from home and plunged into the terror of combat in the air.

DVD Verdict: The arrival in Britain of the US Air Force had a profound effect on the military and social history of World War Two. This documentary 'The American Invasion' provides a record of a momentous period in American and British history. The memories and experiences of the local population and surviving U.S. airmen here are incredible, simply heartwarming and embracing to sit and listen to; to allow to sink in today.

The recollections of these men form the backdrop that weaves fascinating personal tales around the story of one of the most costly military campaigns of World War II. It is not exactly an easy watch, not all the time, because you fall in love with these triumphant guys over and over. You worship what they went through to ensure this country remained ours. You cry when they themselves stumble over recollections of travesties aimed against them, but revel in their celebratory, joyful stories of success. That said, you have to see 'The American Invasion' for yourself as it will, as an American, make you stand a little straighter with pride, every day thereafter. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
