'Smithsonian: Bible Hunters'
(DVD / NR / 2018 / PBS)

Overview: When scholars began to question the authority and accuracy of the Holy Scripture, a group of intrepid explorers set out to discover the historical roots of the Bible. What they found would rock the foundations of Christianity. Join archeologist and historian Dr. Jeff Rose as he follows the trail of those who unearthed ancient texts and forever changed how we see this most sacred book.

DVD Verdict: Until the 19th century, most Bible-reading Christians believed the Old and New Testaments represented the Divine Word of God, presented in text without error.

But when scholars began to question the authority and accuracy of the Holy Scripture, a group of intrepid explorers set out to discover the historical roots of the Bible.

What they found would rock the foundations of Christianity. Join archeologist and historian Dr. Jeff Rose as he follows the trail of those who unearthed ancient texts and forever changed how we see this most sacred book.

As we watch it all diligently unfold, 'Smithsonian: Bible Hunters' charts the beginning of the Iron Age and the emergence of Israel and its literature, including the kingdoms of Israel and Judah, the downfall of Israel, Judah in the Assyrian and Babylonian periods, Yehud and Persia, and the Hellenistic period.

Each chapter provides a summary of the period under consideration, a historical reconstruction of the period, based on biblical and extrabiblical evidence; a critical study of the biblical literature deriving from or associated with the period, and theological conclusions that readers may draw from the relevant biblical texts. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
