'The Post: 4K Ultra HD'
(Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Sarah Paulson, Bradley Whitford, et al / 4K Ultra HD + Blu ray + Digital / PG-13 / 2018 / 20th Century Fox)

Overview: When American military analyst, Daniel Ellsberg, realizes to his disgust the depths of the US government's deceptions about the futility of the Vietnam War, he takes action by copying top-secret documents that would become the Pentagon Papers.

Later, Washington Post owner, Kay Graham, is still adjusting to taking over her late husband's business when editor Ben Bradlee discovers the New York Times has scooped them with an explosive expose on those papers.

4K Ultra HD Verdict: 20th Century Fox is expanding their 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray catalog offerings this April with the release of this quite stunning 'The Post' in the new 4K home video format on April 17th, 2018.

The 'The Post 4K Ultra HD’ + Blu-ray + Digital combo pack's sharpness takes a fairly large step forward from others in their 4K Ultra HD catalog, I would personally venture to put forth.

Image crispness and clarity receive an obvious boost, and the picture enjoys the fruits of the added resolution in terms of bringing out extremely fine facial and clothing textures, which in comparison leaves the Blu-ray looking almost smooth and flat.

Important especially in a movie like this with so many close ups of a "younger" Streep and Hanks (in their respective roles), the skin tones enjoy heightened depth and accuracy with nuanced diversity of both natural tones and applied makeup (CGI obviously aside, of course).

Indeed, it truly is masterful what they have done to this movie as it is now presented in a vivid (man is it vivid!) Ultra HD Premium HVEC/H.265 encode and HDR10 / WCG grading, a stunning Resolution: Native 4K (2160p), all framed in the film's original 1.85:1 aspect ratio.

Overall, this is a strong UHD Blu-ray presentation, and aside from the 4K (ie: 4x sharper image), the HDR (High Dynamic Range) is brilliant for the lights and deepest of darks, the Immersive Audio is phenomenal for the multi-dimensional experience of the woods and so forth, and the overall quality is, well, truly a visual masterpiece here in 4K.

The audio department get a standing ovation and this is the strongest DTS:X sound mix I've heard thus far on these new formats. The DTS:X Immersive Audio/ DTS Digital Surround 5.1 Spanish and French (Canadian) is stunning here now and has to be heard on surround sound to be truly appreciated, trust me.

Phew! OK, so, as for the movie itself, well, 'The Post' showcases perfectly that filmmaking can precisely reflect the social consciousness on the most politically important issue of the nation of today. Moreover, it is a typical example of realist moviemaking at its damn finest.

I was a kid during the Pentagon Papers and Watergate. I always looked up to Kay Graham as a woman of fortitude. This film has her restraining from being the woman I read about. However, I feel like this experience was the impetus of her awakening to her strength.

I loved Streep's vulnerability and growth throughout the film. She is masterful in her ability to convey several emotions at the same time. Ben Bradley played by Tom Hanks was so juicy. Loved his portrayal of this balls to the walls man of steel. Hanks truly shines. His speech about Jackie after the death of JFK touched me and brought a tear to the eye.

Spielberg is just a master of film. He can make you sit on the edge of your seat because he uses the camera to take you in the film. His style is so sophisticated. The actors are not just characters, but the film is a character too. Spielberg is always moving the camera to set us in the story.

For me, a massive bonus is that the great John Williams composed the music. Hence, and as one would fully expect, the music is outstanding and is so compelling. Another wonderful master of his specific art form. Spielberg and Williams are always genius working together.

So if you didn't see this up there on the big screen, have no worries now for this stunning 4K Ultra HD Premium Blu-ray will make your day; and all from the privacy of your own living room.

Heck, if Spielberg makes a Watergate follow up movie with the same cast, it would be a HUGE hit. Hey, this is from a woman who can quote 'All The President's Men' dialogue by heart, so heed my words, people! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs via 1080p and comes with the Special Features of:
