'Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay'
(Christian Slater, Vanessa Williams, Billy Brown, et al / 4K Ultra HD + Blu ray + Digital / R / 2018 / Warner Brothers)

Overview: The Suicide Squad is sent on a mission to retrieve a mystical object so powerful, they're willing to risk their own lives to steal it for themselves.

4K Ultra HD Verdict: Warner Brothers continues to expand their 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray catalog offerings this April with the release of this quite stunning 'Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay' in the new 4K home video format on April 10th, 2018.

For my money, the 'Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay: 4K Ultra HD' + Blu-ray + Digital combo pack's sharpness takes a fairly large step forward from others in their 4K Ultra HD catalog, as everything that we watch features HDR (High Dynamic Range); for much brighter, deeper, more lifelike colors.

For with HDR, the the images are crisper and the overall clarity receives an obvious boost here on this release. What's more, it's highly, and enjoyably noticeable.

The picture enjoys the fruits of the added resolution in terms of bringing out extremely fine facial and clothing textures within the animation, which in comparison leaves the Blu-ray looking almost smooth and flat.

Important especially in a movie like this with so many animated close ups of the rag tag cast, just watching Harley Quinn perform her stunts and you would swear that was actually Margot Robbie up there (with some CGI over here to "animate" here good self!

Indeed, it truly is masterful what they have done to this movie as it is now presented in a vivid (man is it vivid!) Ultra HD Premium HVEC H.265 encode and is presented in 1.78:1 aspect ratio in 2160p UHD. [HDR10 is included here as well for those televisions that are equipped].

Overall, this is a strong UHD Blu-ray presentation, and aside from the 4K (ie: 4x sharper image), the aforementioned HDR (High Dynamic Range) is brilliant for the lights and deepest of dark's, the Immersive Audio is phenomenal for the multi-dimensional experience of the woods and so forth, and the overall quality is, well, truly a visual masterpiece here in 4K.

The audio department get a standing ovation as it features a lossless DTS-HD M1 5.1 mix. Sadly no Dolby Atmos or DTS:X option available here, which is unfortunate. Still, this is a good sound mix and deserves all the applause that we're hearing back about it.

Phew! OK, so, as for the movie itself, well, 'Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay' showcases the deadly, demented, dangerous, and dysfunctional Task Force X, who have returned to our small screens, once more.

Indeed, this brand new animated film from Warner Bros Home Entertainment, that features the voice talents of Christian Slater, Vanessa Williams, Greg Grunberg, Tara Strong, and others, has now been bumped up to an amazing R rating!

The adult themed story, which should delight fans of the series who thought the PG-13 approach of the live action film did not do the series the proper treatment they believed was due, is that the worst of the worst have been recruited to recover a mysterious artifact; and thanks to the explosives implanted in their heads, their control and compliance is expected.

Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Copperhead, Captain Boomerang, Killer Frost, and others set out to complete their mission despite their usual issues with authority, the world, and each other. Naturally they are not unopposed as Captain Zoom, Banshee, and others stand in their way.

As the team fights others and amongst themselves, the body count piles up, for this ain't no kids movie, and the blood and bullets fly frequently. The animation and voice acting is first rate as you would expect from Warner Bros and the large cast works very well bringing their characters to life; and infusing them with a complexity which is deeply engaging.

In another triumph for the studio, 'Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay' delivers all that fans expect and more and has our hangings wringing for the moment the rag tag Task Force X team are once again called upon. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs via 1080p and comes with the Special Features of:

OUTBACK ROGUE: Captain Boomerang
NICE SHOT, FLOYD! The Greatest Marksman in The DCU
THE POWER OF PLOT DEVICES, MaCGUFFINS AND RED HERRINGS
A Sneak Peak at DC Universe's Next Animated Movie: "THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN' and more!
