Overview: Recently released from prison, Beth (Julianne Nicholson) is working with her public defender (Jimmy Smits) to get her son back from her sister, who was awarded legal custody while Beth was incarcerated for ten years.
Soon after, she forms an unlikely alliance with Jess (Emma Roberts), an idealistic young protégé of the public defense team, who decides to take on Beth's cause -- whether Beth likes it or not.
Blu-ray Verdict: 'Who Are We Now' is a real look of how hard life can be and the choices we have to make everyday. Do we want to be right or happy and so forth.
An intelligent script interweaving several layers executed perfectly, to my mind (and ear) there wasn't one line out of place and not one orphaned moment to lose interest in.
Sure, ok, I think the ending was a little out of character, but that's only a small blemish on otherwise captivating drama. I really enjoyed this movie and also thought the acting, buy all concerned, was fabulous, and the story highly original (in this day and age of retreads).
