I was, quite literally, fascinated by this new documentary in which teenagers, and those that looked nothing like I expected them to (shame on me, I guess) sought out the comfort of inanimate objects (much like record collectors, but for wood enthusiasts!)

The film follows three young girls - Aisku, Elsa and Alisa - whose lives have been transformed by their new interest: hobbyhorses. Despite a lack of understanding by some, the girls bravely and spiritedly pursue their hobby; along the way garnering respect and even admiration from some of those shocked at the start.

Indeed, if not for that alone, 'Hobbyhorse Revolution' celebrates its subject matter with enthusiasm, resulting in a doc which is both deeply moving and endlessly amusing.

Simply put, this is a beautiful and heartbreaking story of women coming together to create their own magic and power. Agreed that the absurdity of the whole thing (to most passerby's, I'll grant you) made it hard for me to connect emotionally with the girls at the start, halfway through you're at ease with your mind that it's not actually a mockumentary!
