Hosted by Carlos Watson, twelve talented men and women, from country music superstar Jason Aldean and actress Danai Gurira to Oscar-winning director Lee Daniels and chef and restaurateur Eddie Huang, recount the nearly insurmountable obstacles and long odds they faced to reach and reimagine their own potential and, ultimately, to break big.

Their stories are deepened by eminent social scientists, marketing experts, film critics, book editors and many others who assess the risk-taking and bold moves these journeys required.

In truth, The Daily Show host Trevor Noah, whose interview kicks off the series, comes across as more of a comedian than anyone serious enough to delve too deeply into his path to behind his desk.

Ditto ABC comedy Fresh Off the Boat creator Eddie Huang, who is first-and-foremost a chef and former Fox News Channel host Gretchen Carlson who is first a “change maker.”

But things do spark up when the also-interviewed San Juan, Puerto Rico pugnacious mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz tells her tale and we discover that, and despite her well-documented issues with President Donald Trump, “in some ways, stylistically” they “have some things in common.”
