'The Rundown' [Blu-ray+DVD]
(Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Rosario Dawson, et al / Blu-ray / PG-13 / (2003) 2019 / Mill Creek Entertainment)

Overview: Beck (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) is a bounty hunter sent into the treacherous jungles of the Amazon to bring the rebellious Travis (Seann William Scott) back to the States.

When Beck and Travis reluctantly join forces to hunt down a priceless treasure, this unlikely team embarks on a pulse-pounding, non-stop thrill ride.

Blu-ray Verdict: After striking gold with his witty directorial debut (in the form of 1998's 'Very Bad Things'), director Peter Berg went on to do this seemingly forgettable action-piece ... which is one of my very personal favorites in its genre!

Trust me when I say that 2003's 'The Rundown' is a thrilling action fest with all the ingredients required from an Amazon jungle adventure in the vein of Indiana Jones, and to a lesser extent Romancing the Stone.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson plays a tough guy who finds himself at odds with a local mobster, which sends him to the jungle in search of his long lost son as a payment for his debts.

The renegade son, portrayed by Sean William Scott, isn't thrilled by the idea to say the least. Scott's character is actually doing some very interesting treasure hunting and doesn't look like he's planning to return to the States until he's found what he's looking for!

Enter into the fray the feisty no nonsense female lead Rosario Dawson in the shape of a kick-ass local mercenary! Oh, and watch out for a crusty and brilliant one line comeback spitting Christopher Walken as a capitalist bad guy!

Adding to this rather awesome Amazon adventure is also a brief cameo by the then-Governor himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger who adds his own little rumble to the jungle!

That said, some very fine cinematic photography and scenic locales are all overshadowed (kinda sorta) by the youthful Seann William Scott; who steals this film from the "real" star, Dwayne Johnson!

The story is naturally silly (I mean, there's not even baboons to be found in the Amazon - it's not their natural habitat!), but it's chock full of lazy Sunday afternoon humor all combined with some effective action sequences. These are both (Blu-ray+DVD) Widescreen Presentation's (2.35:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
