'To Be A Soldier'
(Jacob Dufour, T.L. Bridger, Wayne E. Brown, Julie Streble, Christian Thesken, et al / DVD / NR / 2019 / Mill Creek Entertainment)
Overview: A British insurance agent enlists the help of an ex-Army ranger to rescue his sister, who has become entangled with ISIS.
DVD Verdict: Taking place in 2014, 'To Be a Soldier' is notably a very gritty and realistic movie about war.
Again, have no doubt that what you will see portrayed on screen are many drawn out scenes of violence, all realistically and graphically portrayed … and yet, being that it is sculptured to be so, the continual message of the Christian faith is spread for all to see throughout.
A "based on true events" movie made around the lifestyle of love and sacrifice, Jacob Dufour stars as British salesman Gregory Kirk. His sister Sophie (Julie Streble) has gone missing in the Middle East and might well be a victim of ISIS soldiers.
So, posing as a journalist, Gregory hires a former Army ranger named Bryce Daniels (T.L. Bridger) to help him get through various war-torn areas in the hope of finding his sister.
Although, the fact he tells Bryce they are actually going in search of a group of imprisoned Americans (in order for Bryce to get onboard) does reveal itself to be a major stumbling block before the end, of course.
In closing, and once again (as it does, I fear, need repeating) 'To Be A Soldier' does feature a most violent war in motion, and realistically so.
There is a lot of blood and many people are killed - both good and bad - but the outcome is, as expected, heart lifting and ultimately you will have installed within you a new appreciation for all the soldiers that defend the freedom of this great nation. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
