'Mayans M.C. - The Complete First Season'
(Jd Pardo, Clayton Cardenas, Sarah Bolger, Michael Irby, Carla Baratta, et al / 4-Disc DVD / NR / 2019 / 20th Century Fox)

Overview: Set in a post-Jax Teller world, 'Mayans M.C.' sees EZ Reyes, a former golden boy now fresh out of prison, as a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California-Mexico border who must carve out his new outlaw identity.

DVD Verdict: Personally, I knew 'Mayans M.C.' would be a hit when Kurt Sutter decided to go into the Mayan's way of life in an M.C.

If you're expecting this to be identical to 'Sons Of Anarchy' (SOA) you have no imagination, sorry! Sutter can pretty much write anything and if you have substance and intelligent thought you'll understand and enjoy this explosive action.

From the very beginning, Kurt identified a "mole" in the club and he's built on this storyline, adding into the fray the other club members. He brings mistrust, angst, bloodshed, loyalty and non-stop action along for the ride too!

I appreciate the subtitles as a white non-Mexican speaking man, as they help me understand a lot of what goes on. Although listening to the Mexican dialect isn't difficult, it's nice to have the subs in case I missed something that is said crucial to the plot line.

The women in 'Mayans M.C.' are tough as nails, intelligent and undivided in their causes. New characters are introduced and have exactly what it takes to make you feel what is happening in their lives.

There are some faces from the SOA past, which shows how the Mayans maintained a close association with Samcro after Jax's death. There's other clubs as well, but the Mayans are being presented as how the Mexican lives are different to every day white class lives re: their struggles, their love, their families, their friends and their enemies all give us an entirely new take on the way the Mayan's differ from other clubs.

That said, and it bears paying heed to once more, if you seriously cannot get past this show not being an SOA series you will not be able to enjoy this great TV extravaganza.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to Season 2 (September 3rd, 2019) as this first season flew by for me, which is why having it here now on DVD is a most perfect way to relive all those plot moments that I thought I had comprehended (but in some cases have since discovered I had gotten wrong!).

In closing, I would like to say a big thank you to Kurt Sutter, Elgin James, Emilio Rivera and to the entire cast and crew who have worked diligently for a very long time to make 'Mayans M.C.' a success. Your hard work is paying off, my friends. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
