'Bare Knuckles'
(Martin Kove, Jeanette Roxborough, Chris Mulkey, et al / DVD / NR / 2010 / IMAGE Entertainment)

Overview: Based on a true story, Bare Knuckles shows how far a woman will go to provide for the ones she loves.

DVD: 'Bare Knuckles' is the story of Samantha (Jeanette Roxborough), who tries to make ends meet by entering the rough and tumble world of underground women’s bare-knuckle boxing. To make matters harder for her, Samantha is raising a handicapped child, played by Roxborough’s real-life, deaf-mute daugher Teya.

For those that don't know, Jeanette Roxborough is a stunt double trying to turn actress, which might explain the badly-timed/acted punches, and complete lack of facial tone. Indeed, some of the fights in the tournaments felt rushed, with most lasting something like 30 seconds. And, hey now, I'm not talking about highlights of the fight, I'm talking about from start to finish of the actual match!

For my money, they should have used less people in the tournament and made the fights a little longer and more competitive. The grand finale fight is actually OK though, and was shot on location at Castle Kashan in Malibu, California. Sometimes known as Hodge Castle or Malibu Castle the 10,000 square ft replica of a Scottish castle was also used for filming 'Highway to Heaven (1984).

As for additional info, one of her opponents is played by kickboxing champ Bridgett “Baby Doll” Riley; and Samantha’s trainer is played by Cobra Kai sensei Marin Kove. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
