'SAF3 2 - Under Pressure'
(Dolph Lundgren, J.R. Martinez, et al / Blu-ray / NR / (2013) 2019 / Mill Creek Home Entertainment)
Overview: John Eriksson and his elite rescue task force, SAF3 (pronounced "safe"), are struggling to keep their program alive, all while continuing to perform daring rescues and risking their lives as part of the Malibu Fire Department.
DVD Verdict: First up, I fully expected this to showcase a lot of OTT mindless rescue-action sequences, but the film has more layering and heart than that.
TJ Martinez is great, and Dolph manages to pull off the sensitive tough guy role really well. Lots of relationship plot lines that overlap and keep it interesting too, so it's definitely not all about Dolph and his muscles here.
The camera work does a great job of showing off the locations and the cast in their best light and as for the cinematic experience, well, the wide pans are really nice too.
The direction is decent, but I do think the pacing could be a little faster in places, but that said, 'SAF3 2 - Under Pressure' has good writing and steadily improves as the hour clocks by.
In closing, I was definitely drawn into some of the character story lines here in this sequel, and have to say that this sequel is an entertaining and thoughtful show with heart. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
