'Vibes - Retro VHS Style' [Blu-ray]
(Cyndi Lauper, Jeff Goldblum, Peter Falk, et al / Blu-ray / PG / (1988) 2020 / Mill Creek Entertainment)

Overview: Psychics Sylvia Pickel (Cyndi Lauper) and Nick Deezy (Jeff Goldblum) are hired by a mysterious man (Peter Falk) to find an ancient treasure in South America.

As they trek through Ecuador, their supernatural skills lead them straight into danger, disaster and romance. When the ancient ruins unleash an evil paranormal power, Sylvia and Nick must join psychic forces to save the world.

Blu-ray Verdict: For my money, 'Vibes' is an overlooked gem, waiting to be discovered! It's faults (weak special effects, and underdeveloped script) are swamped by the enthusiastic performances of Cyndi Lauper and Jeff Goldblum.

There are so many quick one liners that could easily be missed, multiple viewings are almost mandatory. Peter Falk delivers some real gems too.

I can see why the film never found an audience back in the day, because it is very silly in parts and dark in others re: knives in the back are nothing to laugh at!

I can say this, go in expecting some dark humor along with endearing acting from Lauper and Goldblum and you will not be disappointed!

Jeff Goldblum and Cyndi Lauper are a comedic smash together and I honestly believe that people would go see this film if it were released today. Googie Gress is impressive in his role as the nemesis of our heroes, with some truly witty lines of his own too.

Peter Faulk plays a con man who entices Goldblum and Lauper to travel with him to Ecuador and use their psychic gifts to find his missing son. The son doesn't really exist, and we discover that he is really hunting for a lost Incan city fabled to have a "room of gold"!

To his last line in the film, Falk plays somebody who's always trying to find an edge that will bring him some extra benefit. His character was a good addition, to leaven some of the more serious stuff.

Simply put, it's all about the vibes! An endearingly quirky late '80s adventure comedy with a bit of romance on the side, sees Jeff Goldblum and Cindy Lauper as psychics hired on to head to Ecuador to find a treasure of a lost Aztec civilization. Watch it tonight on Blu-ray and be glad you did! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.

'Vibes: Retro VHS Style' (Blu-Ray) is out February 11th, 2020 via Mill Creek Entertainment.
