Gainesville, Florida five-piece Sister Hazel is planning to release a holiday record on September 25th. Entitled “Santa’s Playlist,” it incorporates classics and standards remade in their own unique way, obscure Christmas tunes, and several of the band’s originals. The album, which comes in response to countless requests from fans, follows the release of a b-sides disc, “BAM! Volume 1,” back in June, as well as the band’s latest studio album, “Absolutely,” which was released in October 2006.

The making of the record became a unique endeavor in and of itself. Lead singer Ken Block explains: “We were all really motivated to make this CD, but in order for us to finish it in time for this year’s holiday, we had to do a lot of tracking on the road. We recorded in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Memphis, Atlanta, Myrtle Beach, Dallas, and Gainesville while we were touring. That in itself created a great energy. It was a lot of work, but we had a blast.” That was not the only new experience for the Hazel boys. “Each of us got to bring in three songs and produce them,” explains guitarist Ryan Newell. “Being in a band with five equal voices, it was a great experience to see each one of us take turns in the producer seat,” adds vocalist/guitarist Drew Copeland.
