WIN! 'Nova: Mystery of a Masterpiece' on DVD!
NOVA meets a new breed of experts who are approaching cold case art mysteries as if they were crime scenes, determined to discover who committed the art, and follows art sleuths as they deploy new techniques to combat the multi-billion dollar criminal market in stolen and fraudulent art.
The copying of famous works of art dates to the origins of the history of art collecting and therefore to the beginning of the history of art. In the ancient world, replicas of famous works were made in order to satisfy demand by collectors for such works.
This documentary gives both sides of the story with several experts testifying as to why they believe and why they do not believe that a certain piece could be done by da Vinci.
It shows the forensic work which was done in order to look at the individual layers of the drawing, the damage done when removing it from a larger tome of material, the left handed brush strokes and several other interesting details.
If you would like to win a copy of this highly intriguing new DVD, just answer this easy question: Referred to as the "Last da Vinci", this painting by Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci dated to c. 1500.
Long thought to be a copy of a lost original veiled with overpainting, it was rediscovered, restored, and included in a major Leonardo exhibition at the National Gallery, London, in 2011–12.
Although most leading scholars have considered it to be an original work by Leonardo, this attribution has been disputed by other specialists, some of whom posit that he only contributed certain elements.
But what is the actual, titled name of this mysterious work of art?!
