Win 'Ring of Fire - The Emile Griffith Story' DVD!
'Ring of Fire' is the tender love story revolving around the life of the six-time world boxing champion, who in 1962 killed his opponent Benny “The Kid” Paret in the ring, on live television.
In a March, 1962 ‘rubber’ match, held at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden and televised live nationwide, Griffith knocked out Paret with an astounding barrage of punches after earlier that day, Paret taunted Griffith at the afternoon weigh-in, calling him “maricón,” the Spanish word for “faggot.”
Ten days later, Paret died. Following this bout, boxing was not televised for the next 10 years.
‘Ring of Fire: The Emile Griffith Story’ debuted at Sundance in January of 2005, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury prize. It then aired on USA in April and will be released by Anchor Bay Entertainment on September 20th.
