'FAME' Actor Gene Anthony Ray Dies
Actor Gene Anthony Ray who played LEROY in the hit 80s movie and TV series 'Fame' has died aged 41. His mother Jean said he passed away after complications from a stroke. He was also HIV positive. Streetwise class rebel Leroy was one of the best-loved characters in the 'Fame' show and was one of only two stars to appear in all six series from 1982-87. The programme about a class of budding singers and dancers at New Yorks High School of the Performing Arts was a worldwide smash. Gene like LEROY had never had a professional dance lesson but shot to fame through dazzling raw talent. He was spotted by 'Fame' choreographer Louis Falco and went to the real High School of the Performing Arts. But he dropped out after a year. His mother said: It was too disciplined for this wild child of mine.
