'Aussie rocker dies'
Influential Go-Betweens singer Grant McLennan has died suddenly in his sleep at the age of 48. The Aussie singer-songwriter was cited as a major influence on bands such as REM and Franz Ferdinand. His death at the weekend in Brisbane after he complained of feeling unwell has left fellow band members "devastated". Manger Bernard Galbally said it was "totally unexpected." A spokesman for his label Lo-Max Records said: "He was one of Australia’s greatest songwriters. The Go-Betweens recorded a series of exceptional albums that achieved widespread critical acclaim. "He was an unparalleled lyricist and a prolific and meticulous composer. His contribution to music and his commitment to his craft can’t be understated." The band formed in 1977 and its best-known songs were Bachelor Kisses and Through The Streets Of Your Town.
