Sony Legacy [Record Store, Black Friday, 2015] Sony Legacy [Record Store, Black Friday, 2015]

Both Record Store Day 2015's are in the books, and EXCLUSIVE MAGAZINE wants to say a big THANK YOU to all of you who went out to the stores on both Saturday, April 18th and the recent Black Friday to support and celebrate them!

We hope you found something you loved to take home with you, whether that was something released exclusively for Record Store Day or something fantastic from what they regularly stock.

Yes, every day should be Record Store Day, so we encourage you to make stopping by your favorite record store AND stopping by this website a regular thing - because we'll be telling you about awesome things going on at record stores all year long!

Today we are revealing ALL the Sony Legacy Records' Black Friday releases, with special highlighting, and reviewing, of the three (3) RSD vinyl releases that were kindly personally sent to us for review leading the way.

Falco - "Rock Me Amadeus" / "Vienna Calling" - 7" Single on Red Vinyl
This is a special commemorative release celebrating the upcoming 30th Anniversary of Falco's career-defining hit, "Rock Me Amadeus." It features the song's American Edit (#1 on the Billboard 100 in March 1986) coupled with Falco's "Vienna Calling" (the 86er Mix, which peaked at #6 on the US Billboard charts in 1986). Limited to just 1,000 units in the US, "Rock Me Amadeus," musically, is as much of my youth, my history, as my parents!

With "Rock Me Amadeus", Falco became the first German-speaking artist to be credited with a number-one single in all mainstream US pop singles charts: the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box Top 100 Singles. Prior to Falco, "99 Luftballons" by Nena got to number one on Cashbox, but peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. The single hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on 29 March 1986.

Falco had already had a minor US hit in 1982 with "Der Kommissar" (a hit the following year there for After the Fire), "Sound of Musik" which reached number 13, and his follow-up single from Falco 3, "Vienna Calling", which is also featured here.

For those wanting a little more known trivia about the oh-so-catchy song, well, "Rock Me Amadeus" would later be ranked number 87 in VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 80s and number 44 in VH1's 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders!

Jeff Buckley / Sly & The Family Stone - "Everyday People" / "Everyday People" - 7" Single
Sly & The Family Stone's classic song, along with Jeff Buckley's unreleased interpretation is next in line. Pressed on black vinyl, ergo a 7" Single, this brilliant split single with a solo version of "Everyday People" on Side A and the original version from Sly And The Family Stone on Side B is a Limited Edition of just 4000 copies.

Well, as much as we all know about the Sly & The Family Stone version of this double A Side vinyl, Jeff Buckley's versions is actually "brand new," so to speak! Recently discovered in the Sony Music archives during the research for the 20th anniversary edition of Buckley's Grace album, the performances on his upcoming "new album" You and I is, simply put, a beautiful revelation.

In general, You and I will be an intimate portrait of the artist performing a variety of cover songs and original music, expressing a range of emotion channeled through his singular sensibility, but here on "Everyday People" he excels in such a way you long for those days back with him in them.

Alan Parsons Project - "The Turn of a Friendly Card: Single Edits" - 7" Single on Green Vinyl
Another special Limited Edition 7" vinyl release, "The Turn of a Friendly Card: Single Edits" presents the rare single edits of three key tracks from the album - "The Turn of a Friendly Card" / "Snake Eyes" / "Games People Play" - in commemoration of the 35th Anniversary of the APP's 1980 progressive rock masterpiece. Pressed on green vinyl, this special RSD Black Friday IMPORT is limited to sales of 1,000 units in the United States.

As it says on the label, as they say, "The Turn of a Friendly Card: Single Edits" presents three (3) rare single edits of three key tracks from the 1980 album, The Turn of a Friendly Card. Inspired by the theatricality of casino gambling as exemplified in Las Vegas and Monte Carlo, the concept of ‘risk’ at the gambling tables has obvious parallels to the risks we take in life.

For my money, "Games People Play," sung by Lenny Zakatek, is a Project classic, another great exuberant rocker and one of the group's biggest hits. The once-epic title suite, containing the songs "Snake Eyes", "Nothing Left To Lose," and the instrumental, "The Ace Of Swords," is also a monster work of musical art. Ergo, The Turn Of A Friendly Card, as an album, was always a glowing gem from Alan Parsons & company, one of their finest, so to hear these rare singles edits after all this time is a pure, unadulterated delight. And on green vinyl, nonetheless!

This newly restored performance offers an immersive listen into a crucial chapter in the Isley Brothers' history, a pivotal moment in the fusion of rock and funk music in an era fueled by the sound of the Isleys.
