Paula DeAnda Paula DeAnda

'Pop's Newest Sensation'

Paula DeAnda is making quite a name for herself these days. The young Pop Singer hit local radio stations in the southwest with her self-titled album, produced by the legendary Clive Davis, who signed her on the spot during her audition.

Paula has collaborated with Baby Bash, on her first single "Doing Too Much." With a list of cameo appearances on her debut CD, Paula is on her way onward and upwards. And Paula's video has also been on constant rotation on MTV's TRL.

Here is what she has to say, when I recently caught up with her.

You have an amazing talent, have you been performing since your younger years? "Yes, I have been performing since I was 6 years old and I actually started recording demos at the age of 12."

How has the audition with Clive Davis changed your perspective on life? "It has changed a lot for me. I know now that dreams can come true and thanks to him taking a chance on me I finally get to do what I have always wanted to do (SING)."

I heard the song "Doin' Too Much" featuring Baby Bash. How was the recording experience and was it an experience that has helped you evolve and grow as a singer? "The recording experience was amazing I have always been a huge fan of his and to get to write a song along with him was really a blessing. I never knew it would do so well. It was fate."

Where were you when you received the news that you had made it the Billboard Chart and what was that like for you? "I can't remember where but my manager Ed O. Canas was the one to break it to me. I was like wow, that's so cool, I can't believe it. I was in the ranking with great established artists. It really didn't hit me until I saw it for myself."

Your music has been received well and your music has been featured on MTV's TRL. The song "Walk Away" has a great groove to it. What is the story behind the song? "'Walk Away' is about a girl who has just got out of a relationship with her boyfriend and now she sees him walking with another girl, she just can't seem to walk away."

Any plans for an upcoming tour? "None as of right now but we have some time. Yes, I would love it, if I could get on Justin Timberlake's tour - that would be great!"

Will you be doing any more collaborations with any other recording artists in the near future? "I'm not sure what the future holds but hopefully something with Alicia Keys, TI, Chingy and Chris Brown."

Your family has been very supportive of you and your music. Fortune is smiling on you. What other things do you like to do when not recording or writing music? "I am very lucky to have such a supporting family that will be there for me no matter what. I love to spend time with my family and when I can go to dances, movies and get-togethers with friends."

Now that you are signed to a major label, what else would you like to do, career-wise? "I would love to open up my own restaurant have my dad run it. He is a mean cook, lol. Also a clothing line that me, my sisters and mom will run."

If you could cover any '80s (possibly cheesy!) pop song, which one would it be ... and why?! "'Look Out Weekend,' by Debbie Deb would be cool. I like the feel of that song and played around with it in the studio for a couple of days ... and also, 'Eternal Flame' by the Bangles is cool too!"

Lastly, I like Penguins ... do you?! "I think they are cute, lol!"
